Hi, my name is Alvin Koay and I run Growth.pro
I have been an entrepreneur all my life and I can truly relate to businesses that find it hard to scale up.
The year was 1998 and the internet population was just only 200 million. It was then that I started my first ecommerce company, selling original video CDs globally and it was also the year Google was founded.
The online business made me some money but the fairy tale did not last long as the MPAA shut our website down for “parallel importing” to the USA, when the rights of the video CDs was only for Asia..
Fast forward a few years and I had already run a handful of small
businesses; from being a farmer to a restauranteur to a few online companies. Of course, I failed many times along my journey too.
It was also at that time that I started buying hundreds of generic keyword domain names, to build them out, then, rank them highly on the search engines, and eventually sell them for profits. Since the very first day of my online foray, SEO was my thing and driving traffic to web properties was how I did it.
In the year 2000, I was romanticized by the whole Silicon Valley tech startup bravado and took my most expensive domain name, MobileApps.com, raised some funding and tried to build a technology company. Well, that failed miserably and I moved on to my next domain, MobileAds.com. We built a strong tech team, created a mobile advertising company and ad server which was fully certified by Google. Our company has since served major companies like Softbank, Unilever, P&G, FamilyMart, PizzaHut and many more. During the US presidential campaign, our technology was even used by the Hillary Clinton’s camp to run her political ads.
For the past 10 years, we had been trying to build technologies for large corporations. We were thinking that if we could help them make even more money, we would be successful ourselves too. However, I eventually realized that big corporations merely exist to profit their shareholders. I became more disillusioned with working with greedy corporations as it was not fully aligned with my life-goals: enriching shareholders/fund managers of faceless large companies.
Eventually , I must say that I found my true calling in working with small and mid-sized businesses where I get to personally listen to their heart-felt pains of running and trying to build a business. I can totally feel them as my journey as an entrepreneur was wrought with ups and downs too.
I then realized that my team and I can strongly impact the lives of these businesses, by putting our SEO, technology expertise and digital marketing knowledge to good use. It was the thought of helping their children through college and placing food on the table that moved mountains for us.
Today, we are proud to say that we are fighting together with the entrepreneurs side-by-side, everyday, to create something meaningful for their lives. Every time I see the the faces of the company owners as we help them get more income, it just gives our team a deeper purpose. Every time we hire a struggling writer or newbie marketer and coach them to be the best that they can be, it emboldens our spirit and makes our lives meaningful.
This is what we want to do.
We are experts in marketing, we are a team of technologists, but most of all, we are humans who just want to help other struggling humans with our expertise and experience. And, of course, we expect to be paid well for it too.
