01The starting point

Prospective students increasingly ask AI which provider to consider before they ever look at a website. This provider wanted to know whether it featured in those answers, and how it stood against the institutions it competes with for enrolment. When a prospective student asks ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity which institutions to consider in a subject area, the providers that get named and sourced are the ones already on the shortlist.

02What we built

03The results

Across the tracked prompts and the five engines, the provider reached:

  • Brand Mention Coverage of 62.96%. The provider was named across the tracked responses.
  • Citation Rate of 36.51%. It was explicitly sourced or linked in more than a third of the answers.
  • Average AI Ranking of 2.44 when named, a top-tier position.
  • AI Share of Voice of 23.04%, the highest in its competitive set, first of five.

At the prompt level, the analysis surfaced where strong rankings were not yet matched by brand mentions, which became the priorities for optimisation.

The visibility also reached real people. Year over year, sessions from AI answers rose sharply.

04What it means

Holding the highest share of voice in a competitive education category means that when the engines answer a prospective student's question, this provider is the name most likely to be featured among its peers. Mention and citation coverage back that up, and the surge in AI-referred sessions shows the visibility reaching real people. Recommendation is the ground ahead, earned as the citation lead compounds.
